Bar Trends 2015

For some of you, if you are anything like me, one of the most important components of any event is the bar. Booze, cocktails, liquid courage, whatever you want to call it, should never be overlooked. We all know “no great story started with a salad” :)  After attending the Catersource conference last month, I learned a few lessons in (and outside) of the classroom on what is trending in beverages this year. So let’s go beyond the vodka soda, although a solid favorite of mine.

Whiskey

Whiskey for everyone! Typically not the crowd favorite, whiskey is leading the pack in top spirits for 2015. And we are not talking about Old Fashions or Hot Toddies. Think Blood Orange Sour or Sweet Whiskey Lemonade. Mixologists everywhere are creating upgrades and twists on this classic spirit.

Sweet Whiskey Lemonade

• 2 oz triple sec
• 2 oz whiskey
• 1.5 oz lemon juice
• ⅔ oz lime juice
• 1 tsp. granulated sugar
• ½ tsp. apricot preserves
• 3 oz. tonic water

Pairings

Not only are they adorable, but mini food and beverage pairings are a fun favorite for any cocktail hour. Ask your caterer for assistance with coming up with mini cocktail sips to complement some of your passed apps. A favorite of mine is mini Patron bottles with equally sized tacos. Just too cute to eat!

Craft Brews

Holy batman craft beers are taking over the beer world! They are threatening the big name conglomerates so much so that they are getting bought out to gain a share in the market. Take your favorite local brew (have you tried Castle Island Brewery btw?) as an exit favor for your wedding. Build your own craft beer station complete with taps for your guests to help themselves to throughout the night. It will keep everyone involved while staying hydrated.

Garden Grown

Herbs and vegetables are not just for cooking. From cucumbers to basil, switch up your cocktail menu by including some of your favorite produce. Try a simple syrup infused with rosemary or mint to top off your favorite drink. Or shock your guests with herb infused ice cubes!
